Apprentice Program

Mission Statement

Local 130 Union journeymen plumbers are among best trained and accomplished plumbers in the world. That is so because the vast majority received their apprenticeship training and advanced journeyman training through programs offered by the Joint Apprenticeship Committee (the “JAC”) of the Trust Fund for Education and Training, Local 130, U.A. (the “Trust Fund”).

The Trust Fund provides funding to the JAC necessary to cover the substantial costs of training apprentice plumbers and providing advanced educational training for journeymen plumbers, which funds are derived from contractor contributions.

The JAC is responsible for designing and managing the classroom educational programs offered by the JAC, placing apprentice plumbers with plumbing contractors for required on-the-job training, and supervising the advancement of apprentices through the five year apprenticeship program.

A Plumber’s work consists of plan reading, and safely, correctly and efficiently installing and maintaining plumbing systems. These plumbing systems include underground water supply, storm water, sewer drainage, fixture installation, and waste and vent piping both inside and outside of buildings and residential.

The apprenticeship school admits students of any race, color, national and ethnic origin or sex to all phases of Apprenticeship. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin or sex in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and loan programs, and other school administered programs.

The length of the Apprenticeship program is five (5) years. An Apprentice works for a plumbing contractor and receives on-the-job training four (4) days per week and attend one (1) day of classroom instruction during the first three (3) years of the program. The 4th and 5th year consist of on-the-job training five (5) days per week and night school classes from September through June. The apprentice is paid by the contractor for the five days of training in accord with the applicable apprentice pay rate, established by Local 130.
