JAC - Training

Joint Apprenticeship Committee (J.A.C)

Whether you’re just starting out as a plumber or you’ve already logged in years of long hours and hard work, Local 130 membership helps advance you in a successful career. As technology, equipment and codes continue to change, you need to keep up with the safest and most up-to-date procedures on the job. The JAC has a qualified staff of journeymen instructors to help you get the job done effectively and efficiently!

Anyone over the age of 18, with a high school diploma or equivalent, has the opportunity to enroll in the JAC five-year apprentice training program. As part of this program, apprentice plumbers are actually paid to attend classes one day a week, while receiving on-the-job training the remaining four days of the work week. The program is designed to provide apprentice plumbers with the knowledge and experience they need to succeed on-the-job and to promote quality within the unionized plumbing industry.

For Local 130 members who want to keep up to date on the latest materials, methods, products and codes, the JAC offers a variety of advanced journeymen training courses. To accommodate the members’ work schedule, classes are offered in the evening at our state-of-the-art facilities at 1400 W. Washington Boulevard.

Under the direction of UA Certified Instructors, the advanced training programs address subjects such as OSHA Safety and Hazcom, welding, service plumbing, code and theory, drafting, plan reading, computer drafting, first-aid and CPR. And, as the Plumbing Industry continues to change, the JAC will continue to respond with additional courses to address future demands of the industry.

Our apprentice and journeymen training courses create highly professional Licensed Plumbers. This is one of the most important goals of the JAC. The JAC takes pride in the valuable and expert service we provide to more than 500 signatory contractors and over 5000 Local 130 members.

The Apprenticeship Program is Registered With the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training.
